A6 Dungiven to Drumahoe Dualling

Delivered by the Department for Infrastructure the £220million A6 scheme will see the construction of 25.5 kilometres of new high standard dual carriageway between Dungiven and Drumahoe, including a bypass of Dungiven, with roundabouts connecting the scheme to the existing road network at either end.

The A6 is a strategically important route as it connects the North West to Belfast and beyond. The existing road carries around 15,000 vehicles per day and with traffic levels continuing to grow, this very significant investment from the Department for Infrastructure will greatly improve road safety and journey times by reducing congestion.

Construction on the project includes:
  • Improvement of the A6 Trunk Road from single carriageway to dual two lane carriageway.
  • Four new compact grade separated junctions at the B118 Tamnaherin Road, the U1175 Gulf Road, the B69 Baranailt Road and the B74 Feeny Road.
  • 22 Structures.
  • New left in-left out arrangement at Ardmore junction
3 New Roundabouts:
  • On the A6, connecting the existing single carriageway road to the new dual two lane carriageway, east of Dungiven.
  • At the new compact grade separated junction at the B118 Tamnaherin Road.
  • On the new A6, connecting the existing C507 Tirbracken Road to the new dual two lane carriageway, north of Drumahoe.
