Our contract team from Farrans Glenua has completed the base pour on the new 17m-wide, 18m-deep treatment tank at Kilrea Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW).
The new tank – which will house an Activated Sludge Process (ASP) – is being constructed as part of a £9m NI Water upgrade to deliver a state-of-the-art treatment works for Kilrea
The base pour on the new ASP tank took 8 hours to complete with 34 lorries delivering the required 270m3 of concrete.
60 tonnes of reinforcement bar were installed ahead of the pour – which if laid flat would stretch from Kilrea to the outskirts of Coleraine!
Due for completion in 2025, the new Kilrea WwTW will support local development and deliver environmental improvements in the area including improved discharge to the River Bann.
The existing treatment works remains in operation while Farrans Glenua build the new facility.
